किसी प्रोडक्ट को बाज़ार में उतारने से पहले काफ़ी सोच-विचार किया जाता है. आख़िकार कोई कंपनी उस उत्पाद को बनाने में अपना समय और पैसा लगा रही है. लेकिन कई बार होता ठीक इसके उलट है. कंपनी ने कोई प्रोडक्ट बनाया किसी और काम के लिए, लेकिन लोग उसका इस्तेमाल करने लगे किसी और काम के लिए.

कई बार तो ये चीज़ें ख़ासी प्रसिद्ध होती हैं और वक़्त से साथ लोग उस चीज़ का असली इस्तेमाल ही भूल जाते हैं. तो चलिए आपको बताते हैं उन मशहूर प्रोडक्ट्स के बारे में जिनका असली उद्देश्य कुछ और था और आज वो किसी और काम आ रहें हैं:

1. Botox को माइग्रेन के इलाज़ के लिए बनाया गया था.

2. Viagra मूल रूप से दिल की दवा है.

3.  कार में Glovebox दरअसल दस्ताने रखने के लिए बनाये गए थे, क्योंकि शुरुआती दौर में लोग दस्ताने पहन कर कार चलाते थे.

4. Microsoft Excel/ Google Sheets को अनौपचारिक डेटाबेस के रूप में इस्तेमाल किया जाता है, लेकिन वो वास्तव में Data Analysis Tool हैं

5. बियर की बोतल के ऊपरी भाग को इसलिए पतला रखा गया था ताकि लोग इसे ऊपर से पकड़े और बियर गर्म न हो

6. बबल रैप का आविष्कार दरअसल एक फ़ैन्सी वॉलपेपर के रूप में हुआ था

7. Ketamine (Anesthesia Drug) की ख़ोज घोड़ों के लिए की गयी थी, न कि इंसानों के लिए

8. इस इमोजी को Sexting के लिए बिल्कुल नहीं बनाया गया था.

9. Minoxidil को दरअसल High Blood Pressure के इलाज़ के लिए विकसित किया गया था. शरीर पर बालों का ख़ूब बढ़ना इसका Side Effect है क्योंकि ये त्वचा के छिद्रों में खून के प्रवाह को बढ़ा देता है. अब लोग इसे गंजेपन से निपटने के लिए इस्तेमाल करते हैं.

10. Paintball बंदूकों का आविष्कार Paintball खेलने के लिए नहीं हुआ था. इनका आविष्कार Foresters/Loggers/Park Rangers के लिए किया गया था ताकि वो पेड़ के पास जाए बिना पेड़ों (काटने आदि के लिए) को चिह्नित कर सके.

11. Q-tips के कई काम हैं लेकिन उसका जो काम नहीं है, उसी के लिए उसका सबसे ज़्यादा इस्तेमाल होता है.

(Tip – Q-tips कान में डालना दरअसल फ़ायदे से ज़्यादा नुक़सानदायक साबित हो सकता है)

12. Slinky अब एक खिलौना है, मगर इसे दूसरे विश्व युद्ध के दौरान समुद्री जहाज़ों पर संवेदनशील उपकरणों को स्थिर रहने में मदद करने के लिए डिज़ाइन किया गया था.

13. टॉयलेट सीट – बहुत लोग ये नहीं जानते हैं कि टॉयलेट सीट को नीचे गिराने के बाद फ़्लश करना चाहिए वर्ना Microscopic Fecal Matter (सूक्ष्म मल कण) हवा में उड़ने लगते हैं.

14. WD-40 को जंग हटाने के लिए विकसित किया गया था (यहां WD का मतलब है – Water Displacement). आजकल लोग इसका प्रयोग Mechanical Parts को Lubricate करने के लिए करते हैं.

15. कोका-कोला का आविष्कार मॉर्फिन की लत और सिरदर्द का इलाज करने के लिए हुआ था.

16. Fevikvik (Super Glue) का आविष्कार घाव को अस्थायी रूप से चिपकाने के लिए हुआ था (जब तक टांके न पड़ जाए). वियतनाम युद्ध के दौरान Super Glue इस काम के लिए इस्तेमाल किया गया था.

17. Chainsaw को ऑपरेशन के दौरान हड्डियों को काटने के लिए बनाया गया था.

18. नए ज़माने के सेनेटरी पैड और Tampon मूल रूप से युद्धकालीन पट्टियां हैं, जिनका इस्तेमाल युद्ध के दौरान घायल व्यक्तियों के ज़ख्म से बहते खून को रोकने और घावों से नमी को सोखने के लिए किया जाता था. बाद में नर्सों ने इन उत्पादों (Kotex Cellucotton Bandages) के अन्य उपयोगों की भी खोज की.
